There are two ways to add a printer on the ATU system.
The first is to simply connect it directly to the computer via usb cable.
- Once connected via cable, it can be found in the Devices area of your computer’s Settings. This can be found by selecting the Start button, then clicking the gear icon for Settings.
- Once there, one of the categories on screen will be Devices. Once on the Devices page, on the left hand sidebar should be a section for “Printers & scanners”. If your computer successfully recognized the printer, it should be in there most often under its Brand and Model Number.
The other way to add or connect a new printer to a Windows PC is by the network.
- You will need to connect your prnter to the network by an Ethernet cable, connecting it to the Ethernet port on the back of the printer.
- Once connected, make sure that the printer is powered on.
- If the printer has a screen on it, you will want to look in the Settings/Setup and find if there is a Network section. If so you should be able to look for the IP Address of the printer, make note of this, as you will need it for connecting. If there is not a Network section, look for Reports/Print Reports and print them off. In the reports should be information on the Printer, including the IP address. Again, note this down.
- With the IP address in hand, go to the computer you wish to add the printer to and click the Start button or press the Start button on your keyboard.
- From there, click the gear icon for Settings.
- Once there, one of the categories on screen will be Devices.
- Once on the Devices page, on the left hand sidebar should be a section for “Printers & scanners”.
- On the Printers & scanners screen, check that the printer does not show up on the list. If it is not there, click the “Add a printer or scanner” button near the top of the screen. This will cause the computer to search for the printer. If it shows up there you can select, but there is a good chance it will not. If it does not, click the text that says “The printer that I want isn’t listed”.
- This will open an Add Printer window. On that screen look for the bubble that says “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname”. Select that bubble then click Next.
- On the next screen, enter the IP address you found in the line for “Hostname or IP address”. The computer should then scan for the printer and add it in. You are then given the choice to make it the default printer if you wish. After that you can print a test page to make sure the connection if properly established.
If your computer has neither an Ethernet outlet, nor a usb outlet, you will need to contact Campus Support Services as it may be a wifi only printer and that is a more involved process of setup.
