Due to the nature of Android mobile devices, it may be necessary to install a security certificate in order to connect to the ATU GlobalProtect VPN from an Android device.  Below are steps that can be followed to install the certificate:


  1. Click on and download the certificate attached to the bottom of this article.

  2. Note the download location on your device and click Download.

  3. Once downloaded, open the Android device's Settings menu.

  4. Go to "Security and privacy->More security settings" and then choose "Install from device storage"

  5. Choose "CA certificate"

  6. You may review the warning on this screen about privacy.  The certificate installation is necessary in order for the GlobalProtect app to form the VPN connection.  If you choose to continue, click "Install anyway"

  7. Find your folder where the download notification on step 2 said your file was being saved in the list.  The list should only show folders where certificates were found.

  8. Find the "cert_ATU PA Authority Certificate.crt", select it, and click Done

  9. You should see a "Certificate Installed" message.  These steps should only need to be done once per device until the CA certificate is renewed, at which point the Office of Information Systems will send out a notification.


It is possible these steps may be different depending on the version of Android being used.


If GlobalProtect is not already installed on the device:

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store

  2. Search for "Globalprotect" and install the one that shows it is published by "Palo Alto Networks


Once both the certificate and GlobalProtect app are installed


  1. Open the app

  2. In the portal field, type vpn.atu.edu

  3. You should now be able to connect on this Android device
